Garbage & Yard Waste
Household garbage & yard waste are picked up separately once a week Monday-Thursday. Garbage& yard waste are picked up one day behind on holiday weeks. Use the Address Look Up feature on our main page for more information.

Bulk Trash & White Goods
Bulk Trash & White Goods are picked up on Fridays by appointment only. There are no bulk pick-ups on holiday weeks. You can request a bulk trash pick-up online or call the Town of Nashville Finance Department at 252-459-4511 to schedule a bulk pick-up.
Curbside Garbage Pick-up
Roll-out Carts
The town will furnish one 90 gallon container for each dwelling unit on a lot (for example, a duplex will receive two containers).
Cart Maintenance
Customers are responsible for keeping their carts clean. The owner or resident of the property is responsible for the security and maintenance of the container and for its replacement in the event it is lost or removed during residency changes. The town will replace stolen carts, without cost, if a police report evidencing such theft is presented to the town.

You may request an additional cart or art repairs online or by calling the Town of Nashville Finance Department at 252-459-4511.
Position your cart correctly
Please place your cart at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day but no earlier than 6:00 p.m. on the day prior. Please remove carts from the curb on the day of service.
The arrows on the cart lid must face out toward the street.
Leave four feet of space between carts so that the truck's mechanical arm can grip the cart.
Carts must be at least 4 feet away from utility poles, fences, mailboxes, fire hydrants, trees, cars, and any other objects.
Bag your trash
All trash must be bagged before it is placed in the cart. This prevents fly-away litter as the trash cast is emptied into the trash truck.

Prepare your recycling for collection

Do not bag recyclables. Items should be placed loose in the cart.

Empty and rinse containers if needed. No food or liquid should be in the container.

Screw the caps back on the plastic bottles.

Medical Exemption
The town will exempt residents who are physically incapable of rolling the container to the street as certified by a physician, provided there is no relative, custodial, or other help in the home capable of rolling the cart to the street.
Residents must complete a Medical Exemption form(PDF, 293KB) and have it signed by a physician. Completed forms can be emailed or returned in person to the Town of Nashville Finance Department located at Town Hall. The Town’s administrative staff will approve requests for exemption.
The exemption will be granted upon determination of physical incapability as certified in writing by a physician and determination that there is no relative, custodial, or other help present in the household physically able to roll the container to the street. Exemptions may also be secured on a temporary basis if warranted.
Bulk Items & White Goods
- White goods will be picked up for a fee in accordance with the adopted schedule of fees.
- Bulk items and white goods will be picked up on Fridays if requested by noon on Thursdays by calling 252-459-45 l l.
Bulk Waste
Bulk waste is trash not able to fit in your trash cart. Bulk waste is collected on Fridays by appointment only.

White Goods
"White goods" are appliances which include the following: refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, water coolers, air handlers, water fountains, drink boxes, walk-in coolers, stoves, dishwashers, washing machines, clothes dryers, trash compactors, window or other fans, furnaces, fluorescent light fixtures with ballasts, water heaters, and microwaves. The Town disposes of the items at Rocky Mount Recyclers. A $10.00 fee per item will be charged to your monthly utility bill.
Yard Waste

- Residents should have all yard waste behind the curb, not in the street, by 7:00 A.M. on the designated collection day (see schedule) to ensure collection for that week. The above picture is an example of the correct way to place yard waste to ensure the safety of the Public Works Department employees and to quickly and efficiently dispose of yard waste.
- Leaves, pine straw, and grass clippings may be mixed but be free of limbs and brush.
- Leaves, pine straw, and other yard waste will be collected, unbagged, at the street year-round.
- All limbs must be cut into pieces no longer than 4' long and 5" in diameter and placed with the cut end facing the road (see above picture).
- Sanitation crews will collect limbs and/or brush that are piled in an area not exceeding 4' high. 4' wide, and 8' long, per residence, per week. Additional brush and limbs will be left for pick up the following week unless the resident pays a fee in accordance with the adopted schedule of fees.

Request Chipper Service
For a fee, the Town offers a chipper service by request to grind tree limbs longer than 4 feet. Limbs must be less than 14 inches in diameter. Please request chipper service online or call the Town of Nashville Finance Department at 252-459-4511 to schedule chipper service.

- Land-Clearing Debris: Any solid waste which is generated solely from land-clearing activities, such as stumps, trees, etc.
- Inert Debris: Any solid waste which consists solely of material that is inert, such as brick, concrete, rock, and clean soil.
Items not collected by the Town may be disposed of at one of the Nash County Solid Waste Sites.
