Town of Nashville Stormwater Management Plan

The Town of Nashville is committed to protecting our waterways, reducing flooding, and improving water quality through responsible stormwater management. Our Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP) outlines how the Town meets state and federal requirements under the NPDES MS4 Permit, while promoting environmental stewardship in our community.

The plan covers:

  • Program Administration – How the Town’s Public Works Department and partner organizations manage stormwater activities.

  • Public Education & Outreach – Community programs and resources to raise awareness about stormwater pollution.

  • Pollution Prevention – Measures to keep harmful substances out of storm drains and waterways.

  • Construction & Post-Construction Practices – Requirements to control runoff and protect water quality during and after development.

  • Good Housekeeping – Maintenance of Town facilities, streets, and equipment to reduce stormwater impacts.

By investing in stormwater infrastructure, education, and proactive maintenance, the Town is taking important steps to protect our natural resources and ensure a cleaner, healthier environment for all residents.

Be Stormwater Smart - Don’t Dump

The solution is simple: Keep damaging pollutants out of the streets, gutters, and ditches. Stormwater that flows through storm drainage systems, including ditches, is not treated at wastewater treatment plants. It drains directly into our lakes and streams. Drains end in our local waterways. If you have a complaint about a Stormwater Pollution problem, please contact:

Town of Nashville Stormwater Hotline at (252) 529-4053.

Stormwater Management on Construction Sites

Stormwater runoff from construction sites is a significant environmental concern because it can carry pollutants like sediment, debris, and chemicals into waterways, leading to several negative impacts.

Erosion caused by stormwater runoff from construction and development activities is a major source of pollution in our local waterways. To report erosion and sediment problems, call:

NC Department of Environmental Quality Hotline at 1-866-STOPMUD(786-7683).
