Water Service Responsibilities
Understanding who is responsible for different parts of your water service can help save time, money, and prevent confusion when repairs are needed.

Making necessary repairs

The property’s shut-off valve (stop tap) must be maintained by the homeowner.

Water Quality Awareness
The Town maintains overall water quality, but homeowners should stay alert to changes and report concerns to the water utility.
Town/Utility Responsibilities
Water Main
The Town or water utility maintains the main water line under the street.
Line to the Meter
The Town is responsible for the line from the water main to the water meter on your property.
Water Quality
The Town ensures the delivery of clean, safe water to all customers.
If You Suspect a Leak
-
Check Your Water Bill – Unexplained increases may indicate a leak.
-
Inspect Your Property – Look for wet spots, puddles, or soggy areas in your yard.
-
Contact the Town – If the leak appears to be in the main or in the line to your meter.
-
Call a Plumber – If the leak is on your side of the meter.
