Nixle cancellation

The Nashville Police Department would like to make an announcement in reference to the NIXLE messaging service.

The Nashville Police Department was the first agency in our area to start utilizing the Nixle service over a year ago, with great feedback from the community. Nixle has been advertising for the last two years in an attempt to recruit public safety agencies to join their service in order to alert the public to community information. During their advertisement, Nixle has always touted the service as free to public safety agencies. Now with over 6,000 public safety agencies on board nationwide, Nixle has announced that they will begin charging public safety agencies for using the Nixle service.

Nixle announced that the fees for using their services would be based on population of each jurisdiction. Based on the Townfs population, our fee to continue using this service would be over $3,000 annually! Nixle has offered a limited program in which emergency messages only could be sent out to subscribers, however this would only include cell phone text messages, no email or web messages. Due to the obvious possibility that this service could be restricted in the future, we are announcing that the Nashville Police Department will no longer be using the NIXLE service as of May 1,2011. (No action is needed on your part to discontinue the service; you will not be charged any fees.)

If you want to continue to keep up to date with the Nashville Police Department and other community events, you can continue to follow us on Facebook and Twitter. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, but we hope that you will continue to maintain an interest in your Police Department and your community.
