Nashville Police Introduce New HI-TECH Communications System
By: Police Department
September 8, 2009 4:03PM EST

This week, the Police Department adds a new arm to its community services program. It is being called the “Stay Informed” initiative. In cooperation with The Nixle Corporation, an on-line telecommunications provider, Nashville Police are offering a new service that will allow citizens to go online and register to receive email and cell phone messages about crime trends, missing persons and children, road closings, detours, community meetings, and emergency messages. The service is offered free to anyone that subscribes, however standard text messaging rates apply. Nashville Police hope that this will encourage more Nashville residents to become involved in their community, and keep them “in the loop” in regards to critical events and functions.

“So many people are linked to the world through technology, we hope that this tool will help link them to their own community” Messages could also be used in the event of serious crimes, to alert residents and solicit tips and information.
