Garbage consists of waste produced from your household. The Town provides you with a 90-gallon roll-out cart to place your household garbage in and then place at the curb for pick up once per week.
Please place the cart at the curb the evening before your scheduled pick-up day.
If you feel you are unable to roll your cart out to the curb, you may apply to receive exempt status. If you are exempt, then Town personnel will collect your cart at the place you store it, rather than you pushing it to the curb. A doctor's note is required for this exemption.
Garbage, recycling, and yard waste pickup scheduling is available at Town Hall.
Loose Leaf and Yard Waste Collection
Loose leaves, grass clippings, and straw collected from April 1 to October 31 must be bagged and placed at the curb the night before scheduled pick-up. Loose leaves, grass clippings, and straw collected from November 1 to March 31 do not have to be bagged.
The Town of Nashville has begun composting yard trash. The composting program requires that certain types of yard trash be collected and composted separately. Therefore, residents are required to separate this debris at the curb. Leaves and grass, limbs, trimmings, etc., should be piled behind the curb and should be separated in piles. (Leaves and grass clippings may be mixed together.) All limbs must be cut into pieces no longer than 4' long and 5" in diameter. Yard trash that does not conform to these regulations will not be collected.
Yard waste will be picked up on your scheduled day. Other items that are too large for the green roll-out carts will follow a different procedure. These items (furniture, grills, mattresses, etc.) will be picked up on Fridays. If you have a large item that needs to be picked up, please notify Town Hall by Thursdays at noon. A work order will be completed and the item(s) will be picked up on Fridays.
All items need to be placed behind the curb. Please do not place in the gutter and impede water flow. Finally, please be advised that we will pick up yard waste as long as it does not fill up one flatbed truck. If you have a truckload or more and request that it all be picked up, you will be charged a fee according to the adopted fee schedule.
Bulk Goods & White Goods Pickup
Bulk Pick up applies to items that are too large for the green roll-out carts such as furniture, grills, mattresses, etc., and will be picked up on Fridays. If you have a large item that needs to be picked up, please notify Town Hall by Thursdays at noon. A work order will be completed and the item(s) will be picked up on Fridays.
"White goods" are appliances which include the following: refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, water coolers, air handlers, water fountains, drink boxes, walk-in coolers, stoves, dishwashers, washing machines, clothes dryers, trash compactors, window or other fans, furnaces, fluorescent light fixtures with ballasts, water heaters, and microwaves. The Town disposes of the items at Rocky Mount Recyclers and there is a $15.00 charge per item. Payment must be made by Thursday at noon for Town personnel to pick up the item(s) on Fridays.
Nash County Solid Waste
The following items may be disposed of at the Nash County Landfill for a fee:
Land-Clearing Debris: Any solid waste which is generated solely from land-clearing activities, such as stumps, tress, etc.
Inert Debris: Any solid waste which consists of solely of material that is inert, such as brick, concrete, rock, and clean soil.
