The Nashville Fire Department serves the citizens of the Town of Nashville and the Newton S. Gulley Fire District. The Nashville Fire Department is a municipal fire department governed and operated by the Town which utilizes a council-manager form of government. The Town of Nashville as established in 1780. The Nashville Fire Department was organized on Dec. 12th 1916 with 24 men, which replaced the bucket brigades. On January 24, 1918 Nashville Fire Department was re-organized with M.W. Lincke serving as the first fire chief. The fire department was later reorganized as a non-profit corporation on December 12, 1916 and then again re-organized under local government as a town department on July 1, 1992. Currently the department is operated by the Town of Nashville and managed by a Town department head/Fire Chief Randy Goodbrod. The fire department provides fire suppression and prevention services, emergency medical quick response service, specialty rescue services, and emergency management services to the citizens of Nashville and the Newton S. Gulley Fire Districts. The Nashville Fire Department responds to approximately 1500 Fire, rescue and EMS calls annually. The department consists of fifty personnel consisting of eleven career staff personnel, twenty-four volunteer members, seven part time staff, and eight junior firefighters. The department holds a Class 4 Public Protection Classification Rating from the NC Department of Insurance in both the Town of Nashville and the Newton S. Gulley Fire District.
