A Universe of Stories Summer Reading Program

Post Date:05/14/2019 4:46 PM

This summer, from June 15-July 20, the H.D. Cooley Library will offer "A Universe of Stories" Summer Reading Program. This program is for all ages and we're looking forward to sharing all sorts of stories with the community. We will be talking to NASA astronauts, building rockets and also cat towers in the shape of rockets. We'll be designing our own superheroes and universes as well as gathering stories from our own universe.  And of course, there will be crafting!!!

This year we will not be counting minutes or keeping book logs. Instead,  each participant will receive one Bingo card filled with reading tasks. As the tasks are completed, they will  be stamped by the HD Cooley staff. Once a person finishes five tasks, they are eligible for their prize and one entry into the grand prize drawing for their age group. If a person decides to continue on and finish their whole Bingo sheet, they will be able to put in four more entries for the grand prize drawings.  The tasks can be combined. For example, if one task says to read something outside and another task says to read something from the bottom shelf, you can read one book from the bottom shelf outside and cross off two tasks.  The Bingo sheets will be given out starting at the beginning of the program on June 15th.

The popular performers from Sciencetellers will be here on June 15th, telling a story about aliens using both oral storytelling and science experiments. This is a hands-on, wild , and educational ride through space.  We hope to see you there- come celebrate with us as we immerse ourselves in a universe of stories!
