Employment Opportunity – Fire Lieutenant

The Town of Nashville is seeking an individual to fill the position of Fire Lieutenant. This position performs responsible fire suppression and incident response activities including operating fire apparatus and participating in firefighting.  This position supervises assigned employees and operations of fire scenes, disasters or other emergency incidents; directly participates in protecting life and property through controlling, extinguishing and preventing fires; provides emergency medical services; ensures proper completion of day-to-day maintenance of apparatus, equipment and facilities by their assigned company; responds to man-made and natural disasters.  In emergency situations, performs hazardous tasks requiring strenuous physical exertion for extended periods of time in cramped surroundings, hot, smoky environments with limited visibility and at considerable heights.

The Lieutenant position also consults with the Battalion Chief regarding day-to-day operations, emergency operations, personnel issues, apparatus and equipment and is responsible for technical training, inspection activities, and non-emergency and administrative activities for their assigned company in accordance with established departmental policies, procedures and programs.

REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of valid Class B North Carolina driver’s license

Possession of NFPA Firefighter II, Driver/Operator/Pumps and Aerials certification

Possession of Emergency Vehicle Driver certification

Possession of Hazardous Materials I certification

Possession of North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification

Possession of NC Fire Instructor I and Fire Officer I certifications

Possession of NC Confined Space and Trench certifications

DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate degree in Fire Science or related field is preferred; minimum of 5 years firefighter experience including at least 2 years of experience as an Engineer with a career department; or an equivalent combination of experience and education; Must successfully complete the NC Fire Inspector 1 and the Law and Administration programs within one year of appointment; Must obtain NC Fire Instructor II certification and Structural Collapse certification within one year of appointment.

SALARY RANGE: $33,472-$50,208
