Employment Opportunity – Accounting Technician

The Town of Nashville is seeking an individual to fill the position of Accounting Technician.  This position performs responsible paraprofessional accounting, administrative, and administrative support work in the Town’s Finance Department.  An employee in this class performs a variety of tasks in the preparation and maintenance of accounts payable and payroll records; and general fiscal and administrative support work.  Work involves applying established accounting procedures, principles of bookkeeping, and basic fund accounting to the processing of accounts payable and payroll.

Duties Include: The review of pay requisitions and purchase orders for accuracy; review of invoices for coding to appropriate accounts; correction of incorrect invoice coding; entry of payables into the computer; balancing entries; preparing reports such as sales and use tax reports and responding to inquiries from vendors.  Work also includes participation in customer service function; performing the payroll function including review and input of time sheets; generation of checks and payroll reports and records; prepares quarterly, annual, and other payroll and accounting records and reports including W-2s and 1099s; insures proper remittance of federal and state taxes; ensures payment of payroll vendors; participation in the collection of utilities and other revenues; responsibility for maintaining the vendor files and the Town’s fixed asset inventory; coordinating the property, casualty, and liability insurances for the Town; and maintaining inventory of supplies.  Some judgment is required in selecting and applying appropriate procedures and a variety of manuals.  Tact and diplomacy are required in dealing with vendors, coworkers, and citizens in conducting Town business.

Education and Experience: Graduation from a four year college or university with a degree in accounting, business, or related field and experience in an accounting or fiscal office environment and experience with spreadsheet software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
