Employment Opportunity – Customer Service Representative

The Town of Nashville is seeking an individual to fill the position of Customer Service Representative.  This position is responsible for providing reception to the public, collecting various revenues in person or through the mail, handling customer inquiries relating to utility billing and general municipal services, preparing and verifying a variety of reports and records, and general clerical fiscal work including assisting with utility billing and preparation of reports.

Essential Duties and Tasks:

Provides reception and customer service to the public in person and through the telephone; directs callers and visitors and provides information about Town services; opens and sorts mail; prepares correspondence. Collects a variety of revenues at a customer counter or through the mail including water bills, taxes, assessment fees, etc.; properly receipts and accounts for collections; enters fees into computer or cash drawer. Answers complaints from citizens, researches problems, and answers to their questions including high utility bills, missed solid waste collections, need for miscellaneous solid waste collections, etc.; provides information on solid waste collections and recycling, cemetery, taxes, etc.; refers precedent setting issues to higher level management for advice and consultation. Works with new customers to collect information and deposits to create new accounts; provides information on various Town services including utilities, solid waste, etc. Prepares miscellaneous bills and sends them to customers. Creates work orders for service connections, disconnections, leak checks, and other issues for field staff; follows up with customers as needed. Sends letters to customers regarding returned checks. Opens and sorts mail; distributes checks and enters payments into the data base. Balances data entry to files and reports. Serves as a backup to other staff members as needed and performs other duties as assigned.

Applicant must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with coworkers, public officials, and customers; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.

Applicant must have graduated from high school, supplemented by courses in business or accounting, and experience in a customer service, clerical, or billing operation involving heavy public contact; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Hiring Salary Range:  $26,226-$27,537
